Mage Guild Career

I bring you a Mage Guild Career, requested by TessaBee23 at Mod the Sims! For this career to show up in game, you’ll need Twallan’s Careers Mod:

Patch 1.29 ~ Phase Nine
Patch 1.31-1.36 ~ Phase Ten
Patch 1.38-1.39 ~ Phase Eleven
Patch 1.42-1.48 ~ Phase Twelve
Patch 1.50 ~ Phase Thirteen
Patch 1.55-1.57 ~ Phase Fourteen
Patch 1.63 ~ Phase Fifteen
Only the Base game and Supernatural are needed for this career to work and it will work with any combination of Expansion and Stuff packs.
It was made with patch 1.42 and works on patches 1.42-1.63 and should work on all patch levels, although if it doesn’t, please let me know.
The career is in English and Brazilian Portuguese (Thanks vini for the translation!). I’ll include translation instructions at the end.

The career is based at the City Hall in the main package, and the Vault of Antiquity in the SUPERNATURAL package. It has ten levels and focuses on the Alchemy and Broomriding skills.
There are no uniforms. You can also edit career outfits with patch 1.31 and above, so I highly suggest using this feature to give your Sims a uniform of your own choosing 🙂
Right now, there are no opportunities. I am going to be attempting this soon, so watch this space!
There are two custom tones, Conduct Alchemy Experiments, which builds the Alchemy skill, and Learn to Fly, which builds the Broomriding skill.

Career Levels
1. Associate ~ As an associate, you are not yet part of the Guild’s numbers. You have yet to prove yourself in their eyes, and so you offer to do everything the senior wizards ask of you. You realise that you are, at this moment, little more than a hired assistant. You are required to report in every morning and collect your duty roster. The other associates have told you that you’re going to have to get your hands dirty to get noticed. Possible tasks for you include scrubbing cauldrons, fetching books, finding rare ingredients and cleaning up after the familiars.
Hours: 6.00pm ~ 11.00pm
Days: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
2.  Apprentice  ~ Your blood, sweat and tears have finally paid off. You were noticed by one of the senior members for your hard work and dedication, (not to mention your innate natural ability for magic), and you were referred to the council as an apprentice. The mage who noticed you is now your mentor. You get a basic spending allowance from the guild now instead of your previous hiring fee. It’s still not much, but you are in the guild to learn after all. You spend your mornings studying from ancient tomes and your afternoons practicing all you have learned, with your mentor checking in on your progress at regular intervals. You will be tested regularly and focusing on passing your examinations is key to a bit of freedom within the guild. You might also want choose an animal familiar now to keep you company in the long study sessions ahead.
Hours:  6.00pm ~ 11.00pm
Days: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
3. Journeyman ~ After what feels like years, you have finally passed your last apprentice exams. That being said, becoming a journeyman still means that you are a small fish in a big pond. You no longer have to study as much, but you are not yet a fully qualified mage yet either. As a journeyman, you are required to prove yourself as a productive member of the guild. You need to offer your services out to the public as part of the guild’s agreement with the region. Whether that means enchanting protective charms for the superstitious, brewing elixirs for the needy, or divining the location of a missing person, your abilities are to be used to help those in need.
Hours:  6.00am ~ 11.00pm
Days: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
4. Adept ~ You have finally been labelled as a mage in your own right. You get an increase in salary as a valuable member to the guild, and you have more free time to practice your art. Your progress, however, does not have to end here. If you wish to advance further, you are to submit a piece of personal research to the council for approval. Your project must consist of anything magical in nature, and should ideally provide new insight into one of the many arcane mysteries in known world. You are able to take as long as you want to complete the project, and an extra day or two are given to you to travel so that you may collect the required information needed for your research. Practicing your writing skill would not go unnoticed.
Hours:  6.00pm ~ 11.00pm
Days: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
5. Regulator ~ The council have reviewed your work and are pleased. Apparently the next logical step for an Adept is to handle the day to day running of the guild by way of yet more menial tasks. However, the pay is slightly better, and you have a fairly unexciting desk job. There are many regulators required to keep the guild running smoothly on the ground level, and as one of them you are required to do a lot of admin jobs. You process the names of the new apprentices, you place orders for new equipment, you handle inquiries and letters from the non-magical community, as well as a plethora of boring and menial tasks. It’s not a great job, but someone has to do it.
Hours:  6.00pm ~ 11.00pm
Days: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
6. Conjurer ~ Having noticed your efficiency in previous occupation, the council have decided to let you handle more formidable powers. The powers of the world unseen. You have been taught about such beings, but now you have been given the authority to summon and communicate with them. You can understand now why such a position is held only for accomplished mages. You have to withstand their temptations of power and command them as you would a disobedient pet. From ghosts to genies to even darker forces, this is where things get tough. While the mages have their own power, even they must seek assistance from these otherworldly creatures from time to time. Remember your summoning circles, your containment spells, and most importantly, never to look any of them in the eye. However many they might have…
Hours:  6.00pm ~ 11.00pm
Days: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
7. Magister ~ Your success to hold and command a variety of beings from different dimensions has shown you can handle most of what the magical world can throw at you, and now you are required to pass on some of your expertise. The time has finally come for you to take an apprentice of your own. To teach them about the mysteries of your craft, to warn them about the dangers of looking into the abyss, and how to focus their power effectively. Apprentices can be stubborn, so they will require a lot of patience, and many hours of tutoring. The pay is much higher though as you are a respected teacher of magic now. Don’t forget to take time off for yourself.
Hours:  6.00pm ~ 11.00pm
Days: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
8. Wizard ~ This is where the fun really starts. You have a great deal of mystical power, a small household of spirits ready to do your bidding, and a large enough library to fill up a whole tower. In fact, if you haven’t found yourself a comfortable tower or stately dwelling just yet, now is the time to start. Nothing is actually required of you from the guild other than showing your face at the regular dinners and returning the occasional books and scrolls you’ve borrowed from the archive. You now have all the time you want to eat well, drink well, and pursue any personal research, but don’t forget to practice your skills or they’ll get rusty with you sitting around all day. If you seek more power and prestige than you currently have, you must get to know your fellow Wizards. It becomes a highly political game if you wish to advance from this point on, and a bit of cunning wouldn’t go amiss.
Hours:  6.00pm ~ 11.00pm
Days: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
9. Master Wizard ~ Your schmoozing and bowing have finally brought you into the inner circle. You are now part of the Wizard Council, and it is you and your fellow councillors who are the real power of the guild. You all have the Archmage’s ear, and so nothing happens unless the council draws attention to it. Not surprisingly, this level of accomplishment has nothing to do with magic at all, but you are here all the same. You are required to attend all meetings of the council, and give your professional and magical opinion on all important matters. There may be some infighting and some disagreements, but this is what happens when people with great magical power are granted political power as well. Keep yourself in the Archmage’s good books and you may be chosen as a successor when the great wizard finally steps down.
Hours:  6.00pm ~ 9.00pm
Days: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
10. Archmage ~You have finally achieved the height of magical prowess. You are the Archmage, the head of your guild and the most respected of your peers. You are the leader of a powerful group of people, and it is up to you to ensure that they are kept in check. You are the public face of the guild, and answerable to the local authorities if one your mages goes rogue and sets a housing district on fire. Fortunately, there are perks. You are paid a very comfortable allowance and you are consulted by the town leaders whenever there is a vampire outbreak or a temporal rift has swallowed some of the locals. You will have to meet with the council regularly to hear their grievances and propositions, but it’s tolerable as you will have the final say. Most Archmages reach a grand old age, so get comfortable.
Hours:  6.00pm ~ 9.00pm
Days: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
I’m not fluent enough in any other languages to translate, so if you’re interested in translating this career into your language, then please download this Language Strings file and open the file up in Notepad.

Do that for the entire file, then email me your translation to: and let me know which language you’re translating to. 🙂
The career works for me but if you have any issues, please don’t hesitate to let me know and I’ll do my best to sort it as quickly as possible.

Hello MissyHissy! I’m having difficulties with the Mage Guild career. I have all of the EP’s installed and my game version is 1.63. I’m also using Twallan’s career mod, phase 15, version 86. In the Isla Paradiso world, there is no Vault of Antiquity, so I used the base game download instead of the supernatural one, and the career showed up in the city hall. I got my sim to join the career, and everything seemed fine. Then I get a notice in-game that there’s a script error (turns out it actually generated an XML file detailing the error, which I still have, so let me know if you’d like to look at it), but the game still runs fine. In City Hall, there was an option for my sim to “transfer here” and I clicked on that, because it seemed like that might fix the lack of Vault of Antiquity issue, and might’ve been the source of the error (I’m decent with computers but I know nothing about coding so when I tried to look at the report, it made no sense to me). However, when the moment of truth came, my sim refused to go to work. I would queue it, and I could even pick a tone for her to do while at work (though the Word Hard one was mysteriously blank-there was a spot for where I know it would be, but there was no text displayed), but the task would be almost instantaneously canceled. I’ve actually had a similar issue with this before, with vanilla careers, and I realized then that it can happen when your sim doesn’t automatically change into their uniform before they go, but when I went to go check for her uniform, there wasn’t any outfit listed as “career” or “work”! I understand that you don’t have set uniforms for your custom careers, but there was no option to even plan a career outfit. I’ve used other custom careers and even if they didn’t have a set uniform, I could customize the career outfit. With the Mage Guild career, that’s not even an option :c any ideas? Otherwise, my sim can’t go to work.

    • LenneDalben says:

Oh one thing I forgot to mention, I also tried using the Supernaturals download, but that one didn’t show up as a career at all-it was listed under the mods found when I loaded the game, but in game I couldn’t join the career. I tried both City Hall and the Vault of Antiquity and it didn’t show up in either of them.

      • missyhissy says:

Reload the save, it should show at the Vault of Antiquity. But also make sure you don’t have the two versions installed at the same time: they WILL conflict 🙂
And please do send the script error my way, I’ll see what it’s about 🙂

    • missyhissy says:

The lack of Vault of Antiquity is nothing to do with the career: You have to actually place a Vault of Antiquity in the world. And if you’re using the Base Game version, it will only show at the City Hall.
As for the Sim not going to work, you need to set a uniform yourself. Get your sim into CAS and set them a career outfit 🙂 If there still isn’t an option showing up, get your sim to quit the career and rejoin.

  2. LenneDalben says:

I tried reloading, but it only shows up in City Hall still :c and I looked in CAS but she doesn’t have a slot for the career outfit, so I can’t set a uniform for her. I’ve reloaded the save, had her quit and rejoin the career a couple of times, but the option to set a uniform still doesn’t show up. I’ve also cleared all my cache every time I load the save, and alternated between the base game version of the career as well as supernatural, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference.
And by the way, I only got the error the first time I got the career. Here it is:

  3. GummyBear says:

    Hello Missy!
First of all, thank you for all your work ❤ I literally squealed when I found out somene has made a proper Mage career.

    Patch 1.67
All EP up to University Life (including)
    Twallan's Career module: phase 15, ver 86

My sim joined up with the guild, all was good, untli he got promoted to Journeyman. All of his skills from Skill Panel disappeared, and each time he tries to do something that raises his skill (i.e. studying alchemy) he gets reset by Error Trap. Same thing happens on next levels of this career.
When he resigns all is back to normal.
Tried out both versions of your career (basegame & supernatural, never both at the same time), and it keeps happening regardless.
No idea what might be causing it. I have a whole bunch of mods, but none seem to conflict with yours.

I'll be grateful for any kind of help.

  4. missyhissy says:

All right then. First off, apologies for the delay, I’ve had no internet for over a week. However, I think I’ve fixed the problem. For some inexplicable reason, Alchemy is not called alchemy in the game code (who’d have thought?). That would explain why it’s the metrics that are having issues. So I’ve fixed that and re-uploaded, so download again and let me know what happens! 😀

  5. GummyBear says:

    No need to apologise 🙂

Skills tab still empty unfortunately 😦 Though now I can at least see the scroll sidebar, as if skills were there, but invisible.

  6. LenneDalben says:

Hey, sorry I didn’t get to try it until today, but your fix works for me as well 🙂 Thank you so much ❤
